From the latest information reaching us, we were told that the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has cancelled the University of Lagos, (Unilag) Convocation Ceremony which was previously scheduled to hold on thursday, 17th to Friday 18th January 2013.
What most students of Unilag want to know is why did the President ordered the (www.nigeriaschool.com.ng) convocation ceremony to be cancelled?
From the investigations carried out by freebrowsinglink.com unilag contributor, the cancellation was due to the refusal of the Alumni Association and Governing Council of the University to effect the name change announced by the Federal Government early last year.
If you follow News, mostly Education news in Nigeria, you will recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan, in a nationwide broadcast last year renamed Unilag to Moshood Abiola University Lagos (MAULAG) in honour of Late MKO Abiola, (copied from freebrowsinglink.com) this move was totally rejected by the School authorities of Nigeria.
However, The case is still pending in court. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan insisted that the new certificates to be issued by the University MUST bear Moshood Abiola University Lagos (MAULAG), though the University authorities have refused to implement it.
If this is implement, we can be rest assure that Unilag will go on a long Strike.
As at the time of publishing this news, the New date for Unilag Convocation Ceremony has not been fixed.
We will keep you informed.
