INFORMATION reaching us has it that the students of the University of Jos, UNIJOS continued their protests today following yesterday’s chaos in the school over what they say is a 100% increase in school fees. (nigeriaschool.com.ng)
According to eye-witness, the protesting students set fire in front of the school gate this afternoon, insisting that the school authority must reduce their school fees or face the wrought of the students.
When interview, one of the students said, the fee was N27,800.00 (Twenty-Seven thousand and Eight Hundred Naira) but has now been increased to Sixty Thousand Naira!! (N60,000.00) (nigeriaschool.com.ng).
Another student said they have been forced to pay for developmental levy which has never been used for any development within the university.
HE said all effort by the student union government, (SUG) to speak with the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Hayward Babale Mafuyai, was met with a brick wall as the VC refused to negotiate with the students.
Following his refusal to speak with student union government, the students took to the streets to protest, blocking all roads leading to the University of Jos thereby bringing all activities in and around the school premises to a standstill.
All university activities was also boycotted including the exams that was meant to start yesterday 24th November.
As at the time of writing this report, the school has been shut-down indefinitely till further notice.
