The latest information reaching us is that the Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, on Wednesday, 20th November, 2013 ordered the immediate payment of the arrears of scholarship allowances to students of the state in various institutions of higher learning.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ate Kundu, stated this at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Jalingo.
Mr. Ate Kundu said the acting governor had expressed concern that the students’ allowances had not been paid for nearly three(3) years.
He said the commissioner for education had been directed to come up with the total number of the beneficiaries of the arrears and submit same to the government immediately.
“The list is expected to capture all students of Taraba origin who are in universities both at home and abroad so that funds for payment will be made available,” he said.
The acting governor also approved a minor cabinet changes.
Mr. Ate Kundu said the governor made the following changes; the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Isa Musa, was moved to the Ministry of Agriculture while the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Danfulani Kwetaka, was moved to the Ministry of Works as commissioner.
