Well, the Federal Government has raised the hope of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) again, on the implementation of the minimum wage arrears. The latest is that according to the Federal Government, they will pay in arrears after the implementation. Corps members might actually get paid in arrears.
The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has finally cleared the air on the amount to be paid as the monthly allowance for members of the NYSC scheme.
Shuaibu Ibrahim said the monthly allowance of corp members has been increased to Thirty-three thousand naira (N33,000.00) only. The Brigadier General gave the good news during a working visit to the NYSC secretariat in Bauchi State.
According to a statement released on the scheme’s official Facebook page, General Ibrahim said the increase is in line with the new minimum wage approved by FG. He said provisions for the new allowance have been made in the 2020 budget and payment would commence as soon as funds are released by the appropriate authorities.
Remember, President Buhari in April 2019 signed the new minimum wage bill into law.
