We are tired about all this rumour going on in the Education sector, we heard this today and tomorrow everybody said it is a rumour? who started the rumour? Me?
The news we heard some days ago is that come rain come shine, ASUU strike will be called off next week. And according to the rumour, president Goodluck Jonathan, had promise to use a plan ‘B’ (i still like the sound of ‘Plan B’) to send the lecturers back to school even if ASUU refused to accept the offer, and now we heard all those where just rumour? and note a lot of reputable websites (like, punch, vanguard, thisday, etc) all carry this news! So where did it originated from? Here? well no! It all came from the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities. because they have been giving us fake hopes and fake promises for over 4 months!

According to the news spreading like wide fire in the social media that ASUU strike will be called off on Monday November 4 2013 is all rumour. Some of these rumours disclosed that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has directed the Lecturers to resume work next week with or without ASUU. (how? who will lecture the students? Minsters or Senates? all the know is how to say ‘nay’ and ‘yeah’)

According to the new rumour (yes, because i believe this is another rumour sponsored by FG and ASUU) all these are false. According to ASUU President Prof. Isa Fagge the union will never suspend the strike until the government fulfills it’s agreement with them.

Moreover, the Union has never disclosed to newsmens that they had a meeting with President Jonathan on Friday. Another thing Nigerians should understand is that President Goodluck Jonathan does not have the right to order ASUU members back to classroom because as a registered trade union, ASUU has the Constitutional and moral right to embark on strike.

ASUU leadership has urged Nigerians to beg the Federal Government and not the union because the union WILL NEVER suspend the strike till the government fulfills the agreement it willingly entered into.

Finally, there is another rumour that Nnamdi Azikiwe University will resume next week. Please that is false. The Authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has not announced any resumption date as the time of writing this rumour.
