Latest information reaching us has it that the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) Professor Dibu Ojerinde, said on Friday, 28th March, 2014 that the Jamb 2014 UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) would also be conducted in 7(seven) countries abroad.
Prof. Ojerinde stated this on Friday while speaking with newsmen at the University of Ilorin, (Unilorin).
Dibu said the Jamb examination, scheduled for April, 2014 would also take place in the following countires:
1. Accra (Ghana),
2. Johannesburg (South Africa),
3. Cameroun,
4. Jeddah (Saudi Arabia),
5. Ivory Coast,
6. London (UK) and
7. Cotonou (Benin Republic).
He said JAMB was prepared to conduct a smooth and hitch-free examination in all accredited centres in the country.
Prof. Dibu said about 160 examination centres were accredited to conduct the electronic-based examination, (CBT) pointing out that the number of centres has increased dramatically this year.
“Last year, (2013) the board had only fifty-five centres,” he told newsmen.
The Jamb Registrar said about 300 examination centres applied,but only 160 were accredited because they met with the Board’s requirements.
One of the requirements for the centres to be approved by the board, is that they will have steady power supply with back-up facilities if there were power out-ages. And the 160 centers has the above.
On the level of education in the country, Ojerinde said that polytechnics and colleges of education offered the best technical training in the country. Are you serious mr. Dibu? If they do, how come nobody care about polytechnic students? They have been at home for months and the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics are not doing anything to rectify the issues! Well, that is not your business though, you are only focusing on Jamb, right?
“The federal and state governments must revamp and reposition the institutions to meet the demands of the education sector,” Dibu told newsmen.
Still speaking with the news agency of Nigeria, Prof. Ojerinde urged Nigerians not to abandon the country for ‘education tourism abroad’, adding that the Ghanaian education was not better than Nigeria’s and advised those leaving to return.
