Auchi Polytechnic Shut Down Indefinitely Following Students’ Protest

The Federal Polytechnic Auchi (Auchipoly) has been Shut Down Till Further Notice Following Students’ Protest on No-fees No-exam policy.

Following the protest by part-time students of Auchi Polytechnic on the 2nd of June 2016, the school management shut down the College till further notice.

According to the reports, the Auchi Poly protests started when the students in the School of Evening Studies where stopped from participating on the ongoing examination for not paying their tuition fees.

The Evening programme students refused the school directive of No-Fee, No Exam policy and insisted on partaking in the examination, but where resisted by the institution’s security personnel triggering agitation from the students and which later degenerated to violent protest.

Cars belonging to lecturers as well as other facilities on the school were damaged by the students.

When contacted, the the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mustapher Oshiobugie, said the situation has been brought under control and that no student sustained injury.

He equally stated that the management is deliberating on the situation and that the institution has been shut down till further notice.
