ASUU Condemn The Appointment Of VCs In IMSU, KASU and RSUST!!!

The latest information reaching us is that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kano zone made a statement yesterday 27th December 2012 of the abuse of due processing of appointment of vice chancellors (VC) by visitors to the universities in the country.

This statement was made yesterday by the zonal coordinator, Kano zone Dr. Rabiu Nasiru at the end of a zonal meeting in Kaduna which described it as dangerous and unhealthy for university autonomy.
Below is the statement made by the zonal coordinator, Kano zone Dr. Rabiu Nasiru and we quote.

“The zone notes with shock, dismay and total disbelief, the extent to which some governors, who are visitors to their universities, go about in flagrant violation of the laws establishing their universities and process of the appointment of vice chancellors in recent times.

“This trend started with Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma and has now reared its head in Rivers state university of Science and Technology (RSUST), Kano state University of Science and Technology (KUST), Kaduna state University (KASU), Imo state University, Owerri (IMSU) and among host of others,” he said. Unquote.

Nasiru emphasized that the case of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST is most alarming and synonymous to destroying the very existence of the university system.
Quoting Dr. Rabiu Nasiru…

“The current Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor B. B. Fakea was illegally appointed to serve for a term after which he contested again and came last among the five applicants interviewed and yet he was reappointed illegally by the visitor, Governor Rotimi Ameachi.”
