ASUP Strike: FG To Released White Paper On Polytechnics and College if Education To End Strike

The latest report reaching us reveals that the Federal Government would release the white papers on the last visitation panels on federal polytechnics in the country and the reports of Needs Assessments Committees on polytechnics and colleges of education in the country.

The Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, made this known during a meeting of the committee set to bridge the gap between Higher National Diploma, HND, and first degree with other stakeholders in Abuja yesterday.

Wike said with the release of the two documents, members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, would “appreciate the Federal Government’s position,” and call off their 10 months old strike in the interest of the nation.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant, Media, to Wike, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, the Minister also assured that the strike actions by ASUP and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union are resolved in the shortest possible time.

Those who attended the meeting chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education were representatives of ASUP, National Board for Technical Education, NBTE; National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE; National Universities Commission, NUC; Federal Ministry of Labour and the Director, Tertiary Education Department in the Federal Ministry of Education.

Nwakaudu said the committee, which was charged with the responsibility of addressing one of the key demands of ASUP to end the strike, was already working out the required framework to achieve the goal.
