We have just been reliably informed that the Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the release of the sum of N403,108,900, (403Million plus) to facilitate the registration of candidates for the May/June2013 West African Senior Secondary Certificate examination, Waec.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who announced this, yesterday, 12th February 2013, in Uyo said that the approval was in furtherance of the Akpabio administration’s commitment to ensuring that all the Nigerian children in Akwa Ibom public schools were availed of the opportunity to access basic education from primary to senior secondary school, at no cost to their parents or guardians.
If we recurred, in the year 2008, the Akwa Ibom State government declared a free and compulsory education for all Nigerian children resident in Akwa Ibom State. So far, the administration has expended over N50 billion to revamp the education sector in the State, paid examination fees, provided textbooks and other learning materials for the students.
Umanah went further to say that the administration has engaged in massive rehabilitation and construction of educational infrastructure.
Kudos to the Akwa Ibom State Government
