ASUU Strike 2013 saga: The news we hear and share since the beginning of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) 2013 strike has been weird… We were told by newsmen that some Varsities has pulled out of the ongoing Asuu 2013 nationwide strike. But from the news reaching us, we are not certain if any of the Universities mentioned has disassociated itself from the Union (ASUU)
We earlier published that The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State resumption date for students of the institution has been announced and all students are expected to return to school on or before the 25th of November, 2013 and lectures is expected to commence on the 2nd of December, 2013. And of cause, we told the students not to trust the news until we hear from more reliable source. (even though the news was said to come from the school registrar)
The latest news is that the AAUA – Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described the move as a joke, saying its members won’t return to classroom as it dissociated itself from the news.
A statement by the Registrar of the university, R.B. Olotu, asked the students of the Institution to resume on Monday, 25th November, 2013 for the second semester of the 2012/2013 academic calendar.
According to the report, the school made the following statement: “All students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, are hereby informed that academic activities of the 2nd semester of 2012/2013 session paused as a result of the ASUU national strike are to resume on Monday, 25th November, 2013 with the continuation of registration on the university portal”.
The report also has it that the students will begin lectures on Monday, 2nd December, 2013.
But the institution’s ASUU chairman, Busuyi Mekusi, directed members of the union to disregard the directive and stay away from the university campus. (like seriously- students are expected to saty-in and not stay-away in the University Campus?)
The AAUA- ASUU chairman, Busuyi Mekusi told newsmen: “ASUU, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko branch, wishes to dissociate itself from the purported resumption of academic activities in the university, as its members are still part of the ongoing national strike by the union”
Final Note: All students of Adekunle Ajasin University should take note that the school will not resume on the 25th of November, 2013!
