The latest news reaching us is that 5 Lead City University Students plus others are suspected Internet 419er’s.
On the 4th October 2012, The Oyo State police command, on paraded 26 suspects, which include five(5) students of the Lead City University (LCU), Ibadan, Oyo State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu, while speaking at the parade at the police headquarters, disclosed that the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from internet fraud, armed robbery, car snatching and stealing of jewellery worth N25 million. They are packed of criminals.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph added that they suspects were arrested at different parts of the state.
He said the five students were arrested at a hotel in Ojo,Akinyele Local Government Area of the states, with five laptop computers.
Mr Mbu Joseph also said after interrogation, it was discovered that the suspects were using their Laptop to defraud innocent people of their hard earned money.
According to the police, the students allegedly defrauded some people of $10million, $500 and $27,000, and the used part of the money to purchase three vehicles, including a Range Rover worth NGN6.2 million.
He said another suspect, Kingsley John, broke into his master’s house and carted away jewellery worth NGN25 million and sold them to one Alhaji Haruna Umar (42) in Sasa, Ibadan, for N12 million.
The State Commissioner of Police also said three persons (names withheld) were also arrested with 14 explosives.
Mr Mbu Joseph said the suspects attempted to bribe policemen with NGN20,000, which was declined. He added that the case is still being investigated.
