While we are still hoping that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP will call off their strike and return to classroom, the Senior Staff of Polytechnic are preparing to go on an indefinite strike. It is only God that will help Nigeria Polytechnic.

The National Public Relations Officer, of the Senior Staff of Nigerian Polytechnics, (SSANIP) Adebayo Ogunsipe in a statement on Tuesday said the association will soon embark on an indefinite strike because of its unmet demands.

The association had demanded full implementation on CONTISS 15 and payment of arrears accruable; the establishment of National Polytechnic Commission and exception of polytechnics/colleges of technology from the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

Other demands of the association, according to Ogunsipe, included the removal of dichotomy and discrimination against HND holders, constitution of Federal Government’s panel on the review of 2001 re-registration agreements, adequate funding of the polytechnic sector and for the release of government White Paper on visitation panel to federal polytechnics and the enforcement of the five (5)-year single term for principal officers of Nigerian Polytechnics.

According to him the government has failed to meet these demands except the release of the enabling circular for the full implementation of CONTISS 15 which has not been implemented in some federal and most state owned polytechnics.

The association also lamented over the insecurity in the country and the lives that have been lost as a result.
