Yesterday, the former president of Asuu, professor Festus iyayi lost his life in a car accident on his way to the NEC meeting holding at Kano State, according to report, his death might prolong the ASUU Strike.
For people who didn’t know, the governor’s convoy is involved in the accident, trust me, in Nigeria, police drivers are the worst and if you don’t find your way when they are coming, you will end up death as Prof. Festus.
The Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adebiyi Daramola, and the Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okogie, have berated the ongoing crisis between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), saying “everybody is a loser in the strike.”
The NEC meeting will hold today and we pray that the strike is called off. Although information reaching us stated that his death will prolong Asuu strike.
We commiserate with his family, ASUU and the Nigerian human rights community, we pray his soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. Festus Iyayi will be greatly missed.
