The latest information reaching us is that The National Universities Commission (NUC) has shut down an illegal part-time programme which is allegedly operated by the Imo State University (IMSU) in Abuja.
The National University Commission also summoned the Vice-Chancellor of IMSU to Abuja to explain why the university is running a part-time programme in Abuja without the knowledge of the Authorities.
The IMSU Illegal Part-Time programme is operated at the Junior Secondary School, Area 10, Abuja, was sealed on Saturday with the help of some armed policemen who accompanied the NUC Committee on Closure of Illegal Universities to the venue.
The Nigerian police also arrested the Coordinator of the Part-Time programme, Mr. A. C Odunze, who tried to run away when he saw the policemen. (of course, he knew what he was doing is totally wrong, so he had to run)

Most of the Lecturers also ran when the police arrive, not only were the lecturers running, the students also ran out of the school. (It was a running day for them)

However, the Coordinator of the IMSU Part-Time programme, Mr. A. C Odunze has been arrested and he is currently in the Police Custody.
The NUC always made it known that no institution is allowed to run illegal part-time programme in Nigeria. (This is the reason why part-time programmes is banned from most Nigerian Universities).

The students who has been there for five to six years were angry and said the demand a certificate. Or else, their money, their time, will just be a wasted years. Below is the official statement of the NUC president.

“That is what the NUC has been saying, if you go and patronise anillegal outfit, your certificate is illegal, because at the end of the day, this certificate will still be verified by the NUC. And if NUC cannot verify your certificate, even after spending five to six years for a programme, then of course there is a problem. You can never use that certificate.

“Some of the students listened tous while others felt they had been here for the past five to sixyears and they deserve to get a certificate. Yes they deserve to get a certificate from the programme they have subscribed to, but whether this programme is legal or illegal is left for the coordinator of the Imo State University and NUC to decide. And NUC is now saying that the programme is illegal.”

some of the students said they will not waste their time and money, that they are going to sue the Imo State University.
And here is what Mr. Aye Ayeni said, and quote “The coordinator kept telling us that the programme is legal and that the NUC is aware of the part-time programme. I have spent five years on this programme and I am not ready to let go just like that. I will see to the end of this.”

Meanwhile, One Concept College London situated in Gwarinpa area in Abuja, was shut down by the National Universities Commission, NUC for illegal activities and the coordinator, Mr. Marcel Ezenwoye, was handed over to the police for appropriate action.

Before patronizing any of this Illegal Part-Time programme, the best option is to seek the NUC and confirmed from them if it is Legal or Not.
I hope those students who have spent years there should be given some sort of Certificate approved by the NUC.
