The latest news reaching our new desk reveals that The Federal Government will from Wednesday release another tranche of N100 billion in the Special Intervention for infrastructural development of all public universities in the country.

This was the resolution of the Implementation Monitoring Committee of the Needs Assessment Report at their meeting at the Conference Hall of the National Universities Commission on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the meeting which was chaired by the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike had in attendance, the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, TETFUND officials, ASUU, SSANU, NASU, NAAT, representatives of Vice Chancellors, Pro-Chancellors and officials of the Federal Ministry of Education.

It was learnt that the allocation papers for this tranche of development fund will be signed by the Director of Tertiary Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Hindatu Abdulahi.

A source at the meeting stated that all public universities have submitted their work-plan to the Implementation Monitoring Committee with most of them approved and construction work expected to commence as soon as the procurement jobs are completed.

The highly placed source at the meeting informed newsmen grapevine that members were unhappy with a National Officer of ASUU for making unguarded statement to the media that was capable of generating unnecessary tension in the academic community.
It was learnt that the Supervising Minister of Education and top officials of the Federal Ministry of Education were mandated by the committee to organise a technical briefing for all the vice chancellors of the public universities in the country on the execution modalities for the project.
