ASUU Strike 2013 Update: Union Officials Confirms Postponed NEC Meeting Will hold today, Friday 22nd November, 2013
The strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has bee ongoing for about 5 months now, and we have heard a lot of news and different versions of news both from unreliable and reliable sources… Most Nigerian Students are already tired of reading any News on ASUU 2013 Strike. I definitely understand. But we will are always eager to share any positive ASUU news. Anyways, the latest update on the ongoing Asuu Strike is a good one indeed, and there is hope that the lingering 2013 Asuu Strike MIGHT be called off today, 22nd November, 2013 after the NEC meeting.

ASUU Strike Latest News 2013: A member of the Union has confirmed to Newsmen that the postponed National Executive Council (NEC) meeting–which was postponed after the sudden death of Professor Festus Iyayi–is slated to be held today Friday, 22nd November, 2013.

Hopefully, At the ASUU NEC meeting holding today, it is expected that the union will call off the 5 months old Asuu strike 2013. (hopefully!)

Dr. Lawan Abubakar, who is the chairman of the ASUU branch at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi told the Daily Post Newspaper that the rumor that the union will hold the NEC meeting on Friday 22nd November, 2013 is TRUE. (like always, take this with a pinch of salt, another news might surface before the end of today, debunking this one^ but we cannot stop hoping?)

About two weeks ago, Mr President met with the Members of The Academic Staff Union of Universities and after a meeting that lasted for hours… (although it didn’t yield positive instant results as expected), He offer the Union what the F.G can afford, and the President of ASUU send out the offers to all the Universities across the nation, majority of the varsities voted for the call off the ASUU Strike. while a few voted against it. (mostly varsities in the north- “talking to self” i don’t know if they want to turn Education into politics)

Well, after the meeting, the officials set up a NEC meeting which was slated for November 13. But a day to the meeting, (November 12) a former ASUU president, prof. festus was involved in a fatal accident that claim his life. this shocked the union, prompting Unionist to call a 7-day mourning period for professor Iyayi. And of course, any plan to call off the ASUU Strike was postponed indefinitely…

The good news is that the National Executive Council (NEC) will meet again today, Friday, 22nd November, 203 and hopefully they will vote to end the ASUU 2013 strike.

Stay with us, we will let you know if the NEC meeting holds today, and we will let you know if it does not. We hope that the ASUU STRIKE be called-off today, 22nd November, 2013.
